Cameron Charges Into Points Lead at Huntsville Engine "KOC" as Saturday Rain Raised the Stakes for Sunday.
Event 3 of the Huntsville Engine "King of the Coast" Bracket Series welcomed right at 140 racers to Gulfport Dragway to compete for the coveted "KOC" Points Championship and and $20,000 Weekend Purse. "Event 3 was a big weekend for the "KOC". There was bracket racing everywhere from big dollar races to free races all within a stones throw.", Gaylon Rolison stateed. "For the "KOC" to still have 140 cars on the grounds is a feat in itself, and not to mention the forecast of rain for Saturday did not help.", continued Rolison.

The racing action was to kick off Saturday at 11am but a severe thunderstorm came through Gulfport
early Saturday morning and dumped two inches of rain, and brief rain showers continued well in the late morning hours. The Gulfport Dragway staff tried relentlessly to get the track dry but with little success. "The Gulfport Dragway staff worked their tails off to tryget the track dry in time for the event to kick off at a decent time.", Rolison commented. "After 5 hours of trying to dry the track, we realized once the track was completely dry it would be well into the evening before the race would kick off. Here at Gulfport Dragway we have a 1/4 track to
go along with another 1/4 shut down; there was no way for us to effectivly dry a 1/2 mile of racing
surface and still deliver Saturday's event before the 10:00 curfew.", concluded Rolison.

Sunday morning racers awoke to temps in the 40's under sky blue skies in hopes of taking home some valuable "KOC" points and a piece of the $20,000 Sunday Purse. In the Jr. Dragster Classes, Brittany Wilem of Gulfport, MS made her first "KOC" final round appearance taking on "KOC" veteran Kristen Johnson of Brandon, MS for the 13-17 Class title. Wilem took her first "KOC" WIN as Johnson would leave red at the start.Jackson Core of Crowley, LA took the 8-9 Jr. Division WIN and a strangle hold on the 8-9 Points Championship by defeating

Marrero, LA in Bailey's third straight appearance in "KOC" Finals in 2008.
The Pro Electronics and Pro Footbrake racers took to the track right around 12noon with two time trials before eliminations were to begin. After all the smoke cleared, curret "KOC" Pro Electronics Champion Mike Buchwald of  of Steens, MS took the WIN driving for veterean drag racer Bob "Trailer Man" Savage of Foley, AL took the  WIN over David Reynolds of Petal, MS.
